  CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF TERMINOLOGY OF THE LAW ON BILLS OF EXCHANGE AND PROMISSORY NOTES IN FRENCH AND POLISH LANGUAGES

  The article presents the problem of equivalence between the main terms of the law on bills of exchange in Polish and French. First, the author presents the origins of the bill of exchange and the evolution of the law on bills of exchange from ancient times until the twentieth century when the rules concerning this branch of law were unified at the international level, in the convention concluded in Geneva on 7 June 1930. Afterwards, some terms related to bills of exchange in both language versions of the convention are analyzed in order to create the mini-dictionary of principal terms. Then these results are compared with the equivalents proposed in traditional dictionaries. The aim of this study is to check whether dictionaries are a valuable source for the translator of legal texts in relation to the corpus consisting of texts of international law, written in multiple languages.;
  L’article aborde la problématique de l’équivalence entre les termes principaux du droit cambiaire dans la langue polonaise et française. D’abord, on présente les origines des effets de commerce et l’évolution du droit cambiaire à partir des temps anciens jusqu’au XXe siècle où les règles relatives à cette branche du droit ont été unifiées au niveau international, dans la convention conclue à Genève le 7 juin 1930. Après, on analyse quelques notions liées aux effets de commerce dans les deux versions linguistiques de la convention pour créer le mini-dictionnaire de quelques termes du droit cambiaire. Puis on compare ces résultats avec les équivalents proposés dans les dictionnaires traditionnels. Le but de cette étude est de vérifier si les dictionnaires sont une source valable pour le traducteur des textes juridiques par rapport au corpus composé des textes de droit international, rédigés dans les plusieurs langues.;
  Artykuł porusza problematykę ekwiwalencji między podstawowymi pojęciami z zakresu prawa wekslowego w języku polskim i francuskim. Na początku przedstawiono genezę weksla oraz ewolucję prawa wekslowego, od czasów starożytnych aż do XX wieku, kiedy to normy tej gałęzi prawa zostały ujednolicone na szczeblu międzynarodowym w Konwencji Genewskiej z 7 czerwca 1930 r. Następnie, przeanalizowano kilka podstawowych związanych z wekslami pojęć pojawiających się we francuskim i polskim tekście konwencji i na tej podstawie stworzono mini-słownik terminologii prawa wekslowego, który następnie porównano z ekwiwalentami proponowanymi w tradycyjnych słownikach. Celem niniejszej pracy jest zweryfikowanie, czy w porównaniu z korpusem złożonym z tekstów prawa międzynarodowego w różnych wersjach językowych słowniki są wartościowym źródłem dla tłumacza tekstów z zakresu prawa.
