  Higher education is defined by the nature of the knowledge generated and disseminated, its social roles, the characteristics of students and university staff, and also by the dynamics of changes occur ring in the socio-economic and cultural environment, particularly due to technological and civilizational progress. This article is devoted to discussing changes of a global, regional, and institutional nature, resulting in transformations in the field of higher education – moving away from the Humboldtian model towards the development of the entrepreneurial university. The issues addressed in the context of modifying the missions and strategies of universities include the global educational culture, the “silent educational revolution”, the commercialization of higher education, and the idea of lifelong learning. Reflecting on these conceptual categories allows the topic to be situated within a specific theoretical perspective.;
  Szkolnictwo wyższe definiowane jest przez charakter generowanej i rozpowszechnianej wiedzy, jego role społeczne, cechy studentów i kadry akademickiej, a także przez dynamikę zmian zachodzących w środowisku społeczno-gospodarczym i kulturowym, szczególnie w kontekście postępu technologicznego i cywilizacyjnego. Artykuł ten poświęcony jest omówieniu zmian o charakterze globalnym, regionalnym i instytucjonalnym, które prowadzą do transformacji w obszarze szkolnictwa wyższego – odchodzenia od modelu humboldtowskiego w kierunku rozwoju uniwersytetu przedsiębiorczego. Poruszane zagadnienia w kontekście modyfikacji misji i strategii uniwersytetów obejmują globalną kulturę edukacyjną, „cichą rewolucję edukacyjną”, komercjalizację szkolnictwa wyższego oraz ideę uczenia się przez całe życie. Refleksja nad tymi kategoriami pojęciowymi pozwala umieścić temat w konkretnej perspektywie teoretycznej.
