  The subject of death cannot be ignored while preaching the Gospel. Firstly, because of Christ who saved mankind by his consent to experience death and defeat it by resurrection. Secondly, because death is included in every human’s life, with not even one exception. Death is a passage which leads to a full union with Christ. But the issue is how to talk about it in Church. What should be highlighted and what kind of phrases are to be used? The article is an attempt to find answers to the above questions in the light of St. Cyprian’s preaching about death which can be found it in his masterpiece entitled De mortalitate. The one who was a bishop and a martyr probably created the content of his sermon in the time of an overwhelming plague and persecution of Christians. The text is a valuable proof of a shepherd’s care for his sheep and it is an example of preaching about death in a pastoral way.;
  Tematu śmierci nie można pomijać w głoszeniu Ewangelii. Po pierwsze z tego powodu, że Chrystus zbawił nas, przyjmując śmierć dobrowolnie i pokonując ją przez swoje zmartwychwstanie. Po drugie dlatego, że śmierć jest elementem życia, który dotyczy każdego człowieka bez wyjątku. Jest przejściem, które prowadzi do pełnego połączenia się z Chrystusem. Ale jak o niej mówić w Kościele? Na co należy zwrócić szczególną uwagę? Jakiego języka używać? Artykuł jest próbą szukania odpowiedzi na postawione pytania w świetle nauczania o śmierci św. Cypriana biskupa i męczennika zawartego w jego dziele pt. De mortalitate. Tekst ten, pierwotnie będący najprawdopodobniej kazaniem, które następnie zostało spisane, powstał w czasach prześladowań chrześcijan i podczas szalejącej zarazy. Jest cennym świadectwem pasterskiej troski o powierzone sobie owce i przykładem mówienia o śmierci w kontekście pastoralnym.
