  This essay attempts to define “the new” as a poetological term. The new is discussed in relation to Stefan Morawski’s seminal study Perypetie problematyki nowości w dziejach myśli estetycznej [The history of the new in the history of aesthetic thought], the so-called quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns, and selected approaches to the concept in relation to avant-garde art.;
  Hasło jest próbą scharakteryzowania pojęcia „nowości” jako terminu poetologicznego. Termin zostaje omówiony w odniesieniu do najważniejszego dla omawianego problemu tekstu Stefana Morawskiego Perypetie problematyki nowości w dziejach myśli estetycznej, ważnego dla dziejów kształtowania się pojęcia tak zwanego sporu starożytników z nowożytnikami oraz do wybranych sposobów rozumienia pojęcia w refleksji nad sztuką awangardową.
