• Description:
  The Red Army offensive in 1945 caused enormous damage to Masurian towns and cities. In some cases, the cultural landscape created over the centuries was erased, sometimes irretrievably. Rebuilding from the ruins and later expansion in the socialist spirit lasted for several decades. The aim of the article is to discover the inhabitants’ opinion on the spatial transformations of selected Masurian towns in the period 1945-1989. In order to gather suitable material for analysis, a qualitative method was used. In-depth interviews were conducted with residents of six selected towns with different scale of war damage. Most of the respondents assessed the post-war reconstruction positively. Later morphological changes received worse marks. At the same time, the surveyed were able to appreciate the scale of the conducted reconstruction, the creation of jobs and economic development in that period. The effects of war damage and the subsequent cleaning and construction works in Masurian towns are still felt today. Both physically, in the urban landscape, and in the opinions of their inhabitants.;
  Ofensywa Armii Czerwonej w 1945 r. spowodowała ogromne zniszczenia miast mazurskich. W niektórych przypadkach, czasami bezpowrotnie, zatarty został powstający przez wieki krajobraz kulturowy. Odbudowa ze zgliszczy i późniejsza rozbudowa w duchu socjalistycznym trwały przez kolejne kilkadziesiąt lat. Celem artykułu było poznanie opinii mieszkańców na temat przemian przestrzennych wybranych miast mazurskich w okresie 1945-1989. Aby zgromadzić odpowiedni materiał do analiz, zastosowano metodę badań jakościowych. Wywiady pogłębione zostały przeprowadzone z mieszkańcami sześciu wytypowanych miast o różnej skali zniszczeń wojennych. Respondenci w większości ocenili odbudowę powojenną pozytywnie. Późniejsze przemiany morfologiczne otrzymały gorsze noty. Równocześnie badane osoby potrafiły docenić skalę prowadzonej odbudowy, powstawanie miejsc pracy i rozwój ekonomiczny w tym okresie. Skutki zniszczeń wojennych oraz prowadzonych później prac porządkowych i budowlanych w miastach mazurskich, są odczuwane do dziś. Zarówno fizycznie, w krajobrazie miast, jak i w opiniach ich mieszkańców
