  Die Novellierung des österreichischen Fortpflanzungsmedizingesetzes im Jahr 2015 kommt einem Liberalisierungsschritt in Sachen Reproduktionsmedizin gleich, der einige Techniken und Anwendungen freigibt, zugleich aber auch Grenzen setzt. Das neue Gesetz wird zum Anlass genommen, allgemein über die Dynamik liberaler Gesellschaften und über die Haltbarkeit einmal gezogener Grenzen in modernen Staaten zu reflektieren. Auch wenn bestimmte Techniken im eigenen Land verboten bleiben, werden sie meist doch in anderen Staaten angeboten und sind insofern „verfügbar“. Damit verlagert sich die Herausforderung für die ethische Reflexion immer stärker auf die Frage, wie die einzelnen Individuen in eigener Verantwortung mit den wachsenden Möglichkeiten der Reproduktionsmedizin umgehen. Ein verantwortlicher Umgang muss sich der Tatsache stellen, dass die Reproduktionsmedizin tief in die Biographie gegenwärtiger und zukünftiger Menschen eingreift. Anders als oft behauptet haben Reproduktion und Fortpflanzung immer eine ganzheitliche Dimension und involvieren die Betroffenen früher oder später nicht nur auf körperlicher Ebene, sondern auch emotional und personal. Eine individuelle Verantwortungsethik darf sich daher nicht nur auf die unmittelbar sichtbaren und erfahrbaren Konsequenzen beziehen, sondern möglichst umfassend vorgehen. Sie muss sich auch der diesen Techniken innewohnenden Tendenz zur Eskalation bewusst sein, der Gefahr, dass man Schritte setzt, die aus späterer Sicht nicht mehr verantwortet werden können.;
  The adjustments made in 2015 to the Austrian Law on Reproductive Medicine represent a step towards a liberalization in matters of reproductive medicine, permitting different techniques and applications, but at the same time setting certain limits. The new law serves as an opportunity for generally reflecting on the dynamics in liberal societies and the durability of once determined boundaries in modern states. Although certain techniques remain prohibited in the home country, they are usually provided in some other countries and will thus be “available”. Consequently, the challenge for an ethical reflection is increasingly shifting to the question as to how individuals on their own responsibility will deal with the growing options of reproductive medicine. A responsible handling needs to face the fact that reproductive medicine will have a profound effect on the biographies of present and future human beings. Unlike it is often stated, reproduction and procreation always have a holistic dimension and will sooner or later involve the concerned individuals not merely on a physical, but also on an emotional and personal level. Therefore, an individual ethics of responsibility must not only relate to those consequences which are immediately visible and accessible, but needs to develop a much more comprehensive approach. In addition, it needs to be aware of the escalation tendencies inherent in these techniques, and of the danger that there might be taken steps which in retrospect clearly seem unjustifiable to the subjects involved.;
  Poprawki wniesione w 2015 roku do prawa austriackiego dotyczące medycyny reprodukcyjnej stanowią krok w kierunku liberalizacji w sprawach dotyczących medycyny reprodukcyjnej, dopuszczenia różnych technik i działań, ale również ustalenia pewnych ograniczeń. Nowe prawo służy jako sposobność do refleksji nad dynamiką liberalnych społeczeństw i stałością raz określonych granic we współczesnych krajach. Choć pewne techniki pozostają zabronione w ojczyźnie, są one zwykle możliwe w innych krajach, i w ten sposób również „dostępne”. Zatem, zadanie refleksji etycznej coraz bardziej przenosi się na kwestię, jak jednostki, ponosząc odpowiedzialność, poradzą sobie z rosnącymi możliwościami medycyny reprodukcyjnej. Odpowiedzialne postępowanie musi zmierzyć się z faktem, że medycyna reprodukcyjna będzie miała ogromny wpływ na obecne i przyszłe życie człowieka. W przeciwieństwie do tego, co się mówi, reprodukcja i prokreacja ma zawsze wymiar holistyczny i prędzej czy później będzie dotyczyć osób nie tylko na poziomie fizycznym, ale także emocjonalnym i osobistym. Dlatego, indywidualna etyka odpowiedzialności nie może tylko odnosić się do skutków natychmiast widocznych i namacalnych, ale musi opracować znacznie bardziej kompleksowe podejście. Ponadto, należy zdawać sobie sprawę z tendencji eskalacji tkwiących w tych technikach, a także z niebezpieczeństwa podjęcia kroków, które z perspektywy czasu będą wydawać się nieuzasadnione w stosunku do zaangażowanych podmiotów.
