  Voivode and post-Voivode cities in Poland –differentiation and changes of their economic level in the first decade of XXI century

  As a result of the new administrative division of Poland in 1999, 16 new big voivodeships were created replacing the old division with 48 administrative voivodship units. In these circumstances 33 cities lost their voivodship capital’s position and affronted different, previously unknown, challenges resulting from the new functions of the cities now being lower in the towns hierarchy. The aim of this paper is to analyse the differences in the economic level between the post-voivodeship and actual new voivodeship cities. The analysis was done on the basis of the data derived from years 2000, 2005 and 2009. The author tries to analyse the process and answer the question: Did the distance between these two types of towns decrease during this period or did the distance increase? The analysis indicates different ways of managing the shock of loosing the function of voivodeship capital.;
  Miasta wojewódzkie i postwojewódzkie po reformie administracyjnej z 1999 r., a więc w okresie 2000–2009, były istotnie zróżnicowane zarówno pod względem poziomu gospodarczego, jak i pod względem dynamiki jego zmian w przestrzeni kraju. Założono, że ogólny dystans poziomu rozwoju gospodarczego, jaki dzieli miasta centralne – stolice obecnych województw i miasta postwojewódzkie zmniejszał się, zwłaszcza po 2005 r., tj. po przystąpieniu Polski do Unii Europejskiej, oraz że w przypadku wielu miast dystans ten mógł zmniejszyć się znacząco, dowodząc o pozytywnych efektach powziętych postanowień reformy i oczekiwań. Celem artykułu jest empiryczna weryfikacja stopnia i dynamiki zmian poziomu rozwoju gospodarczego ośrodków wojewódzkich w konfrontacji z miastami, które utraciły funkcje wojewódzkie. Oceny tej dokonuje się za pomocą analizy syntetycznych wskaźników poziomu gospodarczego kumulujących najważniejsze dziedziny funkcjonowania miast.
