  The author considers Volodymyr Rafieienko’s (1969) novel Petrichor – the smell of earth after the rain as a metaphor for space. The defining of space in this novel reflects the conflict of identi-ties and the antinomy of the symbolic worlds of the characters. The choice of locations – Kyiv, Donetsk, Ternopil, as well as Wroclaw, Prague, Berlin, etc. – represents the realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war, which forces people to resettle and emigrate. It also illustrates how the heroes of the work choose freedom and European identity. The real geographical space and the realistic layer of the story are combined with the virtual one, which embodies the imagination of the characters. The specificity of Rafieienko’s novel is manifested in the combination of realistic and transcendental features.;
  Autor rozpatruje powieść Wołodymyra Rafiejenki (ur. 1969) Petrykor – zapach ziemi po deszczu jako metaforę przestrzeni. Definiowanie przestrzeni w tej powieści odzwierciedla konflikt tożsamości i antynomię symbolicznych światów bohaterów. Wybór lokalizacji – Kijów, Do-nieck, Tarnopol, a także Wrocław, Praga, Berlin itd. – oddaje realia wojny rosyjsko-ukraińskiej, która zmusza ludzi do przesiedleń i emigracji. Ilustruje także wybór wolności i tożsamości europejskiej dokonywany przez bohaterów dzieła. Rzeczywista przestrzeń geograficzna i realistyczna warstwa opowieści łączą się z wirtualną, która ucieleśnia charakterystyczne imaginarium bohaterów. Specyfika powieści Rafiejenki przejawia się w połączeniu cech realistycznych i transcendentalnych.
