  The paper present the role of an academic functions in the local development strategies of nonmetropolitan academic cities in Poland. For this purpose, there were analyzed local development strategies of non-metropolitan cities which are the capitals of voivodeships, as well as strategies for cities that prior to 1999 had the status of capitals of voivodeships and other cities, where public schools: universities, technical universities or universities of applied science were located. The aim of the analysis was to answer the question whether there is recognize the possibility of taking the advantage of the potential of academic functions for creating development by the local development policy makers.;
  Przedmiotem rozważań w niniejszym artykule jest analiza strategii rozwoju lokalnego pozametropolitalnych ośrodków akademickich w Polsce pod kątem występowania w nich funkcji akademickiej. Analizę przeprowadzono w oparciu o strategie rozwoju lokalnego kilkudziesięciu miast, w tym pozametropolitalnych miast wojewódzkich, jak również strategie miast, które przed 1999 r. miały status miast wojewódzkich oraz innych miast powiatowych, w których zlokalizowane były szkoły publiczne: uniwersytety, politechniki lub państwowe wyższe szkoły zawodowe. Celem analizy była próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy twórcy dokumentów strategicznych ośrodków akademickich dostrzegają możliwość wykorzystania potencjału wynikającego z funkcji akademickich do kreowania rozwoju lokalnego.
