  Miniony wiek był czasem tragicznego doświadczenia zła w postaci Auschwitz i Kołymy, które spowodowały orzeczenie śmierci Boga i człowieka. Ostatni Sobór, mając na względzie troskę o prawdę dotyczącą człowieka i potrzebę aktualizacji przesłania Ewangelii w świecie z zachowaniem jej niezmiennej istoty, wskazał na konieczność solidnego rozeznania w kondycji świata i człowieka po- przez odczytywanie znaków czasu. Soborowa Konstytucja Gaudium et spes sugeruje między innymi potrzebę refleksji nad współczesnym ateizmem. Teza tego artykułu głosi, że źródłem współczesnej postawy odrzucania Boga jest postępujący uwiąd myślenia metafizycznego. Nowatorskość opracowania wyraża się w tym, że Autor jako pierwszy przeanalizował kilka wybranych konsekwencji uwiądu wyobraźni metafi- zycznej, które kumulują się w dostrzegalnej ludzkiej postawie braku uwagi wobec własnego człowieczeństwa. Konsekwencje tejże atrofii wyrażają się także w ele- mentach właściwych tylko osobie ludzkiej jako takiej, to jest przykładowo: w braku uwagi nad wymiarem Tajemnicy, czy też w kryzysie moralności zorientowanej na sposób horyzontalny. Erozja stawiania pytań podstawowych jest fundamentalnym i wspólnym przejawem wspomnianych powyżej objawów zaniku myślenia meta- fizycznego. Autor przestrzega, że jeżeli człowiek zaniecha refleksji nad wymiarem Tajemnicy, to rozminie się wówczas z właściwym sobie zmysłem religijnym oraz zatraci możliwość odnalezienia odpowiedzi na pytanie o sens własnego istnienia.;
  The last century was a time of the tragic experience of evil in the form of Auschwitz and Kolyma. For this reason, many people have announced the death of God and denied the sense of humanity as such. In other words, the twentieth century was a time when evil occurred because of man, humans were wrongdoers. This issue was taken up, inter alia, by Hannah Arendt, a witness to the trial of Adolf Eichmann in Israel. As a result of this event, in 1963, she published a controversial, especially in the Jewish world, book Eichmann in Jerusalem, which has argued for the banality of evil. According to this conception, those who were responsible for crimes committed during the totalitarian period of the last century, weren’t always utterly depraved. What does it mean? Arendt concluded that often they were persons whom political systems allowed for complete thoughtlessness while doing things. This paper argues that today the current question is: what’s the cause of atheism? The general answer is that at the core of the modern phenomenon of atheism and evil, of course in the context of the last world war crimes, is the atrophy of metaphysical imagination, most seriously manifested in the failure to perceive the Absolute dimension, which gives rise to a specific ethos.
