  The article is devoted to the relationship of text and image in popular science publications, the issue of the limits of creative freedom of the graphic designer/illustrator in the design of book layout. The starting point for these considerations were books by Jacek Karczewski from 2019, 2020, 2021: Jej Wysokość Gęś, Noc sów, Zobacz ptaka, whose designer was Ula Pągowska. Their analysis leads to conclusions about the relationship of the aesthetic function of the cover to the informational and persuasive function, the role of the notation in contrast, fonts in visual perception, or the importance of typographic detail to the overall – substantive and aesthetic – sense of the publication.;
  Artykuł jest poświęcony relacji tekstu i obrazu w publikacjach popularnonaukowych, zagadnieniu granic wolności twórczej grafika/ilustratora w projektowaniu szaty graficznej książki. Za punkt wyjścia do tych rozważań posłużyły książki Jacka Karczewskiego z lat 2019, 2020, 2021: Jej Wysokość Gęś, Noc sów, Zobacz ptaka, których projektantką była Ula Pągowska. Ich analiza prowadzi do wniosków na temat związków funkcji estetycznej okładki z funkcją informacyjną i perswazyjną, roli zapisu w kontrze, fontów w percepcji wzrokowej czy znaczenia detalu typograficznego dla całościowego – merytorycznego i estetycznego – sensu publikacji.
